Introduction and Practice Philosophy

Chris Dyson Architect is interested in striking and original design concepts with particular care given to context, culture and environmental issues. Chris is interested in creating buildings of the highest architectural quality, maximising the potential brief and location.

The Practice pursues an integrated approach to sustainable urban planning and design of low energy buildings. We focus on projects that will make a difference to communities and the environment.

This ethos informs all our work from masterplans through to medium and small architectural projects. On urban projects, an integrated approach leads distinctive form, and on architectural projects, close consideration of the nature of each specific brief and its environment leads to responsive design solutions.

We take pride in delivering a very high standard of design that is presented in a form which is easily accessible to professionals and lay people alike.

Design Methodology:

Chris Dyson Architect was formed in 2003 and is a small practice based around a core team of 3-4 professionals. We often work alongside specialist consultants, and this means we can be involved in a wide range of project scales whilst maintaining a very personal integrated approach.

We invest in the early stages of design as this is when most value can be realised. We develop responsive site-specific solutions, which for urban projects make the most of existing assets such as landform, waterways and community linkages.

On architectural projects, close consideration of the spatial organisation within the building provides distinctive structure from the onset. Innovation in the design process is a starting point and an appropriate use of technology is applied. We aspire to an imaginative combination of technology and tradition.

Past Experience:

Chris Dyson has worked on many internationally acclaimed and award winning projects with Sir Terry Farrell, Michael Wilford CBE and Sir James Stirling.
